Let us help protect you from fines, penalties, and the risk of having your charges put on your criminal record. If you choose us we can help defend your reputation, and minimize the consequences you could receive from facing a criminal conviction. We will make sure you understand the process and will be right by your side, whether it is from the moment police begin to question you or once you have been charged with a criminal offense. Your charges can have varying degrees of penalties, such as:

  • Misdemeanor: A misdemeanor is a crime in which the maximum penalties that can be imposed are up to 6 months in a county jail and up to $1,000 in fines and fees. However, certain misdemeanors such as DUI and Domestic Battery have long-lasting effects beyond the fines and fees. For instance, a Domestic Battery conviction will lead to a person’s inability to possess firearms. Thus, it is critical to have an attorney represent you and to explain the ramifications of a crime and its potential impact on your life.
  • Gross Misdemeanor: A Gross Misdemeanor is a crime in which the maximum penalties are up to 364 days in a county jail and up to $2,000 in fines and fees. The Gross Misdemeanor charges may also carry probation up to 3 years. As such, it is important to select the right defense attorney. Choose JK Nelson Law so that we can prioritize your defense and defend you with our legal expertise.
  • Felonies: A felony is defined as a crime in which the penalty carries potential time in prison. While certain felonies carry the potential probation as opposed to having to serve time in prison, not every felony allows for probation. It is important to review your case with an experienced attorney to address the options as to a plea negotiation or trial strategies. At JK Nelson Law we have extensive experience in handling felony matters from plea negotiations to jury trial and will be happy to discuss your case with you.
  • Specialty Courts/Diversion: Nevada has several different Specialty Courts which provide an additional resource for Defendants. Depending on your charges and your situation, you may be eligible to have your matters handled by these specialty courts (Drug Court, Repeat Offenders Court, Veteran’s Court, and more). If you are eligible and accepted into these programs, your case may result in the matter not permanently appearing on your criminal record or reduced penalties. Alternatively, even if you do not qualify for Specialty Courts, some criminal charges may allow for “Diversion” which can also result in the charge not permanently remaining on your criminal record. Having an experienced attorney such as JK Nelson Law can help in discussing such options.
